Sapara Youth Leadership

One of the strengths of the Sapara people is their ability to share stories and knowledge with the outside world. Up to this point, that responsibility has fallen on the shoulders of a few exceptional people, but now is the time to take their knowledge and train the next generation in leadership and public speaking to continue to carry their tradition forward in a public way.

This is an example of “cultural revitalization” - there may not have been a formalized way to teach leadership and public speaking in the past, but it has proven to be an incredible asset to themselves, among other nationalities within Ecuador and abroad.

This is a multi-year project involving the NASE - Sapara Nation of Ecuador - and many of the communities throughout it’s 370,000 hectare territory (1400 sq mi). The objective is to train 50 youth (male and female) on cultural identity, socio-cultural vales, political action and decision-making. Through a series of workshops the youth would gain the skills and knowledge necessary to continue to initiatives that their elders started, while creating audiovisual and written materials for the following generation of leaders to refer to.
